Oh How I Have Neglected Thee

I am alive. And I actually have a lot to say.

Sadly, I feel as though I haven’t had a spare moment to compose those thoughts into a post.¹

After being on this planet for 35+ years, I finally know what I want to do when I grow up. It isn’t that I haven’t known all along, it just took me a while to come to terms with it and actually doing something to make it happen. And that is to be a Photographer.

Soooooooooooooooooooo, I am back in school getting my Bachelor’s degree in Photography. I am so excited and overwhelmed and excited and excited and excited. Thankfully I have people who are going through this journey with me which is making it all the more better for me. I am starting off semi slow, taking some side courses which consist of people my age². And I joined a bunch of meet ups in the area so I could find new and exciting places to photograph. It’s been a BLAST!

Last week I had the amazing pleasure of photographing Ashley Parivar who is Miss Texas United States.³ I am not a fan of taking portraits. I am more of a candid person. I like to take pictures of people who are ignoring me. But more than that I am a nature and landscape person, but she made it a lot of fun for me. So much so that I am started to rethink how I feel about taking pictures of people who know I am there. This weekend I am going to try it again with a lesser known face and see how that goes.

Anyway, that’s where I am at right now. I am finally doing something that makes ME happy… Finally doing something for myself and not because it’s what is expected. And even though it took way too long to figure it out, I am glad I finally did.

2 Janiss February 10, 2010 at 2:21 pm: I am a second generation photographer and I’m so excited for you! I did concert and club photography in the 1980s, and still dabble in it a little today, and do a lot of cat photography these days (which is harder than you would think! They are very willful, capricious models who enjoy looking their best in low light). My dad does landscapes. There is really something magical about capturing an image that tells a story or brings out an emotion in the viewer. Good luck – I am looking forward to seeing more of your work on your blog!
