Hewlett Packard, AKA HP, Has The Worst Customer Service In The World

Computer On Fiiiiirrrrrrreeee

They sold me a Lemon.

A defective computer that from day 1 has been giving me issues.

They finally sent out some in-home support. Very very nice guy, showed up today and was completely baffled as to why they sent out 1 hard drive for a computer that is reporting that BOTH hard drives are bad. Not to mention that he says the errors it’s showing are completely out of sorts. He even called the computer a lemon. When he called Tech Support at HP, the nice girl who answered had such a huge attitude as if he had interrupted her nap or something.  When he told her it there was more going on with the computer than just these hard drive errors, she then decided that I needed a new motherboard. Are you kidding me?????

I received this hunk of junk on October 6th. One hour out of the box, I had a blue screen. I’ve been calling HP ever since.  If I had bought this mess at Best Buy or anywhere else, I would have marched my happy ass right back to the store and demanded a new one or a refund. Instead now, I am stuck with this machine that is clearly crap and having to deal with people who want nothing more than to give me the run around. I am so fed up right now, words can not even begin to describe the level of anger I am feeling towards this company.

Today, after 4 weeks of calling almost every other day, Tech Support idiot Victor insisted I reset my computer back to factory conditions so that he would be allowed to appropriately diagnose what might be wrong. Does he not think those before him tried all that already?????? He totally disregarded the fact that I had a REAL person IN MY HOME working on the computer not even an hour PRIOR to me calling. All he could focus on was me reformatting the computer back to its out of the box condition. The amount of idiocy coming from Victor was so overwhelming, I had no choice but to record the call. He finally got so annoyed with my refusal to do anything that he ended my call.  He told me he was going to take a call from someone who actually wanted his help. I really don’t see that nimrod helping anyone.  I bet he’s the one who insisted I reformat my hard drive to fix the display driver error I had on my last HP. The best part was that after I reformatted it like I was told to, and reset it to factory conditions, after backing up 500 gb’s of information for 2 days the computer started up and 10 minutes later crashed due to what???? A display driver error. 1

Thankfully though, I have a case manager who insists he will do everything he can so that I can have a functioning computer. Too bad I have no way to get a hold of him right now.

So, if you are leaning towards getting an HP, don’t. Go buy a Dell or an E-Machine. Build your own. Get a Mac.  Or maybe, you can get an HP and be one of the lucky ones who gets one that works for longer than a year. Hell, at this point luck involves getting one that works longer than 2 weeks.

  1. We took it down to Geek Squad who didn’t do much better. After looking at it for 2 seconds, they decided a display driver error was the result of a bad hard drive. Yeah okkkkk. So that HP is now gathering dust in my living room. I’m thinking about turning it into a table. []

Let me also say to stay away from Toshiba. There were 4 models of laptops sold at the same time. ALL of them were defective. Class action lawsuit was useless. $1600 for a laptop, 4 mos later it had been returned to toshiba 4 times and I ended up with a reburbished, same model with the same issues.. AND lost the remaining time on my warranty (at the time I still had 8 mos left, but was given 90 days for the refurbished one. Terrible how these people treat us.. heck, we pay their paychecks and get crap for it.

Good Luck Monique… I feel your pain totally!

You are so very correct! However, I’m going to stick with my PC silliness because my life would be rather boring if I didn’t have to call HP at least once a week. lol.

Oh goodness that sucks! I am so glad we built our home PC from scratch. Good luck with that, though!

A lot of my friends suggest I do that but I am not very BYOC smart. I can identify issues and such but beyond that, my brain shuts off.

a friend has had gobs and gobs of issues with his Dell, like you straight out of the box. the blueto0th has never functioned! I bought a Gateway a few years back from Best Buy and have been very happy with it. even got 100 back when it went on sale 2 days after i bought it!

I had a gateway years ago, and I loved it! I’m not even sure why I started buying HP’s.

I’m so glad I no longer have my Hokey Poo laptop. Since moving to MSI it’s been clear computing and phenomenal service the one time anything has gone wrong (I dropped it, didn’t lie about that and they replaced the screen and the motherboard!! no cost!!!).

Happy IComLeavWe days to you.

I love companies with good customer service. I don’t see how some companies with the poor service they provide these days.

Ugh. Computer trouble is THE worst. You don’t realize how much you rely on it until it starts sucking severely.

That said, get a Mac! We got one last December and I love it. I stroke it lovingly and tell it so daily. lol

Happy ICLW!

It’s not just their Desktops. I remember when HP made the best laser printers out there. Not anymore.

I didn’t understand why you couldn’t return it? I am happy with HP. I have had an HP scanner for about 10 years. This past month I had to replace my monitor and bought an HP widescreen. It’s kind of a funny size, wide and not tall but it works fine. I also have an older HP all in one which works fine when I plug it in. I tend to leave it gathering dust until I actually need it. Visiting you through IComWeLeave but I remember you from the days when I was using Entrecard. Funny how that kind of went flat.

Hi,

I found you through ICLW and I gotta tellya, I’ve had a similar experience with HP. It was with a built in mobile wireless card from Sprint. HP and Sprint kept pointing their fingers back to each other for about 2 months. Take solace in the fact that every time you call and they pick up the phone you’re costing them about $45. At the height of my problems I called both HP and Sprint several times a day just so I could cost them some money. Petty, I know, but it was the one thing the supervisors actually responded to.

Hope your next one isn’t a lemon!
