Things I Have Learned At Work
by Monique on August 28, 2008
- My opinion doesn’t count.
- People who are my ’superiors’ do not need to explain anything to me.
- If I request 1 hour off for medical reasons, twice a month, then I must make up the time.
- If the ’superiors’ do not feel like coming in, they don’t have to.
- If the ’superiors’ do not come to work, they do not have to make up the time they took off.
- If I want time off to visit my mother after surgery I might as well be asking for $1,000,000.
- If the ’superiors’ want to visit family that lives three hours away, they can take the time off no questions asked.
- My opinion has not only lost its ‘count’… it has become invalid.
- My feelings also do not matter.
- If I don’t like it, I can quit.

It’s a shame that your opinion no longer matters at work. I know quite well that, even when I completely disagree, you are actually right, which is as true as we know that rain is water.
I still don’t quite get how you always seem to be right, I know they say that it’s a woman thing, but in your case, it has been a literal thing too. lol. I don’t recall a single time you’ve ever been wrong (at least on anything important).
It’s true, you could quit I suppose, but be sure to have the next one ready to go. Oh, look who I am talking to about that, hah. How many times have you said that to me? Too many times in the recent years, but good advice never hurts to be used again.
This made me happy that I’m no longer in the corporate world!! I dealt with this for 13 years and I don’t miss it at all!

I remember feeling like that, I quit and couldn’t be happier. It was a go nowhere job anyway.
Sounds like your having a bad week! It’s tough feeling unappreciated at work.
Just wanted to pop by and thank you for advertising on my blog today, really enjoy reading your blog, keep up the good work!

I remember those feelings all too well. It’s hard to find a job where that isn’t the way it goes.

Ugh! That makes it really tough to get up and go to work in the morning I bet. Sorry to hear it’s going that badly.

Monique, sadly this is the way it is….like this is the first page in my EE’s manual. They let us know that our job is not binding and we are free to go and they are free to let us go w/o warrant.
Jobs are about making money for the business and not about caring about you and your problems, sadly.
I will say my male boss is the best ever! He is so understanding and flexible. Never gives me a problem and that’s one thing that keeps me there, for now. I won’t get that treatment anywhere else.

I feel your pain. In fact, I think there are times when I could have written these exact words. *hugs* Please know that you are not alone. Oh, and ’cause sometimes a girl just needs to scream or do something to change the current situation… In your own time and NOT on the office computer, fine tune your resume and see what else is out there. Doing this does not mean that you quit your job but it does mean that you look and see if you can find something better though sometimes it also means that you are trading a known evil for the unknown variety. Best wishes.

Hang in there girl. God has a plan for you… You are gaining skills in ways that will impact your life in a positive way in your future…
Sounds hectic. You may need a career change… or your own business.
The best move I could make was to leave the employer status behind and found my own company. There are hard times sometimes, but 1000x worth than listening to some assholes telling me how to do my job when they don’t have a clue at all about the things.
I know you will find a solution to this situation Monique.

You make me feel so fortunate that I have such a great place to work. I really have experienced NONE of the problems you refer to here and really love my job. I am so spoiled! What job do I have? I am a secretary at a large law firm. Easy work, good pay, good time off and good people all around!

First time seeing your site. Came across it through entrecard. I can certainly relate to this. I can add that at my work, if I do something it is wrong and I am reprimanded; and if my “supervisor” does the same thing it’s OK. Things like this motivate me to get my home based business moving!

Oh this makes me fume.
That’s it….. if I could hire you I would.
I don’t think I have any clients in your area though. LOL
You deserve to be doing what you enjoy in an environment that enjoys YOU.
Hang in there, maybe read my recent post “Let It Be”. LOL Or not.
Hugs!

But, if employers are usually wrong and ignorant doesn’t that mean that the opposite of all the things you learnt at work is actually the truth?
{{{{{{HUG}}}}}} Don’t worry dear, your time will come!
I can’t stand the working way of life!!! I do feel you on most of your list. I’ve heard so many horror work stories that it sickens me sometimes how bad it can be. But I guess that’s life, eh? No. it’ll get better. I’m trying to get into a better spot. But we’ll see. Best of luck!
I am sorry the powers that be don’t appreciate your awesomeness

Number 11. Unfortunately, your job sucks. Big time.
It’s really sad to have to work that way. I got laid off a month ago, and my first thought was “Oh boy, I don’t have to work here any more!”. It was actually a relief. Granted, I have to find another job, and there’s a worry over money until then, but I still feel better not going in there every day.
that sucks! I’m sorry you have to put up with that crap!
Hope you get time off this weekend to relax.

I can totally agree with you
I hated working for huge corportations and huge department stores all the managers act like they are better than you and act like they dont have the time to talk to you and treat the employees like crap when they can sit back and laugh and cut up and not have to do anything in the store and tell jokes when were out there busting our arses and trying to make a living…. I hate huge corportations / department stores!!

Cheer up. Relax a lil. Tomorrow is another day and i hope things will get better for you soon:)
This sucks ass.
You should find a good kung fu fighting game and imagine yourself kicking the collective ass of your coworkers. Also remember that they are not as pretty or smart as you and are therefore wracked with more jealousy than their little minds can handle. Expect implosion soon.
Well, you can hope for an implosion soon. Right?
I totally understand. I work in a high turn over industry in the entry level position. Attendance, especally, is not a negotiable policy. Miss x days = terminated, end of story, the why doesn’t matter, nor does tenure or performance.
I find it both freeing and annoying that even after two years of service I am 100% replaceable.
