Here’s My First Born, Now Give Me My Shoes

Christian Louboutin Mary Janes

I love shoes.

No… I really love shoes.

I have a massive shoe obsession.

Like, huuuuuuuuuuggggggeeeeeee.

I’d say, shoes own a part of my soul. I don’t know when it started or why, but it happened and that’s just how it is.

I own everything from flats to platforms, fancy ones and plain ones, expensive ones and cheap ones. I can not explain how much I love shoes.

I own well over 150 pairs.

Yes, 150 pairs of shoes.1

I have curbed my obsession greatly in the past few years. In fact, I haven’t bought a new pair in over a year. I hear shoes calling my name as I walk through Macy’s and Nordstroms and I ignore them.2

But no matter how much I love shoes, I would never consider buying a pair that:

  1. Did not fit.
  2. Made me look like an idiot.
  3. I could not walk in.
  4. Did not fit.
  5. And finally, the most important of all… DID NOT FIT.

So with that said, can someone explain to me why it is that I can not spend one single day not having to witness some ridiculous chick trying to walk in heels that she can’t even stand up in. Do men not notice stuff like that?

To me, nothing is more unattractive then… wait, yes there are other things that are more unattractive but that’s not the point… ANYWAY, it bugs me to no end to see a woman in heels who looks like she is walking on tacks. Some of these women look like they need to be on the savannas of Africa … some skitterish gazelle about to be jumped by a lion.  Her knees are slightly bent, she’s semi-slouched, thighs pressed together, all while she is stomping yet bouncing about in some shoes that I personally know must be breaking her toes.

I thought the point of wearing heels was to look good!

I know after 8 hours on our feet, we all walk a little funny, but I just switch to flats instead of looking like an fool. Maybe that’s just me.

Well, I don’t’ know.  Perhaps for a pair of Christian Louboutins I would walk around looking like an idiot, but then again that would negate the point of having them. But oh, to own a pair of those would be like winning the lottery. Hell, I don’t even need to win the lottery to have a pair. It’s just one paycheck. Just one paycheck… I’d get to wear them once… maybe twice depending on if I got them on before my funeral because my husband would certainly kill me if I made that kind of an impulse buy.

Maybe I am being a little too critical.  Nah … anytime your toes overlap your shoes, like you are perched on the edge of a diving board, you need to take the leap and buy a better fitting pair.

  1. even though I doubt I wear more than 5 of them on a regular basis []
  2. instead I go over to the MAC counter and blow all my hard earned cash. []

yes i hate those too. i cringe every time i see women who walk funny in their stilettos. i mean, come on, you buy those heels so that you’d look good, look tall and confident and therefore feel great about yourself. but what happens is, your feet ache and you can certainly see the effects on your grouchy, frowning face. the whole point of owning a pair of sexy heels is definitely lost.

personally, i choose the the heels that i wear and make sure they’re the right size, not big that my foot would slide down the front and not small that my toes touch the cement when walking on the side walk. and if i feel my feet getting tired, i make sure i have a handy pair of nice flats to take over. you can also try putting those invisible gel pads on the shoes to lessen the pressure on your feet.

At my age, comfort is everything. Cute helps too, though.

150+ Pairs? wow.. I’m impressed!

@ Entrepgirls - Exactly. I wonder why other women can’t figure it out?

@ Carol - I definitely love a cute shoe!

@ Eathan - Yes… I loooove shoes. I stopped counting at 150 because my husband was starting to get realllly pissed about it.

I totally agree. I wear a lot of high heels and I am very particular about what shoes I’ll buy. Cute is not enough of a criteria. There has to be some cushioning in the sole, and it has to fit the arch of the foot. If it fits the arch well, you’re distributing more weight across your entire foot, and not just the balls of your feet. Oh, and a wider heel is helpful. Again, helps distribute weight better.

Shoes, purses, MAC… and currently dresses are my weakness. I can’t pass by a store without at least glancing as I slow down. lol Usually though, I won’t buy heels that are higher than 3 inches… just so I can actually walk in them!

7 DirtyLaundryDiva 07.16.08 at 11:51 am

Nope you are totally right on. This girl that works with NewscasterHottie, BridezillaBlondie to be specific, walks around in her tight a$$ paper thin mini skirt and her 5 inch stilettos all while stomping like a herd of buffalo.

What is the point in dressing all feminine and wearing sexy shoes if you are just going to walk like a man in them? Not all ladies can pull off all types of shoes!

@ Haley - I really don’t know how some women walk in those super thin heels. I always feel like it’s going to snap off!

@ Fragile - I see we have the same vices. LOL. Except for me, It’s shoes, MAC and then purses.

@ Diva - LOL! That stomp most of them do is so awful… and you are 100% correct, they do walk like men. It’s so wrong.

Back when I could walk like a normal person, I loved shoes too. It was, really, the only “girly” thing about me. Now I just look longingly at my platforms & other shoes but I don’t wear them. *sniffle*

I never bought a pair of shoes that didn’t fit properly.

I NEVER had toes overlapping the shoe (so stupid).

But I do miss my platforms. :-(

HAHA you hit the nail on the head with this one. I was just thinking about this the other day as I saw a woman lurching across the parking lot in a pair of 4 inch stilettos. Don’t buy ‘em if you cant walk in them!

Oh, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who hears the “voices” calling to them when they walk through Macy’s :)

I completely understand the obsession with shoes!! And seriously, I would probably risk amputation for Louboutins. I have a mad crush on many, many pair. We can dream right? :)

I wish I had 150pairs too. :-)
Love shoes too, but as comfort is as important as looking good, I usually spend hours and hours scouring shoe shops looking for the right shoes. That’s why I don’t own that many. :-(
My DH gave up following me around when I’m doing my shoe shopping. Too time consuming!

If you’re a size 10 and if any of your shoes need a new home, I have some closet space ;)

Shoe watching is one of the best parts about working in New York City. My favorite are the stilettoed chicks who decide to walk across a subway grate. I saw one fall flat on her ass, and another break her shoe.

And speaking of the subway, I’d like to zap women who gingerly walk down the subway stairs in stilettos or other painful shoes and can’t scuttle down quickly enough to let those behind her catch the train waiting in the station. I wound up missing two trains yesterday because of her!

I actually wrote a post on avoiding foot pain last month.

P.S. How did you get CommentLuv to work with SezWho? The plugin totally stunk up my layout.

@ Angelika - I love platform shoes!!! I’ll wear some tomorrow just in honor of you.

@ Athena - I think there are quite a few of us who hear those voices in Macy’s. At least that’s what I’m hoping.

@ chatblanc - Some LB Mary Jane’s are the cause of many sweet dreams for me.

@ lina - My husband also stays away when I am searching for shoes. He realized I get lost in some time warp and its safer for him to just stay home.

@ Shae - Is there a cure? I’m not sure if I’m ready for it yet. lol

@ Brown Sugar - JIMMY CHOOS!! OMG!!!!! *drool*

150 shoes! LOL! I am 54 years old and don’t think I’ve owned that many pairs of shoes my whole life! Needless to say, I’m not into high fashion. I try to find a comfortable pair and stick with them forever. I finally found sturdy, comfortable shoes through L.L. Bean.

Heels always make my feet hurt. I think because I have very narrow feet and can’t find any to fit properly so guess what–I just wear flats or tennis shoes. Unfortunately, that cuts out all my nice skirts and dresses (I don’t like the tennis shoe/dress look or even my clunky flat shoes with dresses–just doesn’t look good).

My husband likes me to wear sandals so I tried a pair but there is absolutely NO support there and my feet rebelled so they just sit in my closet.

*grin*

I love shoes too but I can barely wear heals anymore, even though technically my feet are only 30 years old. They feel like 80 when I wear heals. Some of my favorite shoes have high heals and I can walk in them pretty darn gracefully…but after 8 hours I feel like someone is sticking small knives in the bottom of my feet. OUCH!

I don’t have 150…I might have 20 but hubby thinks that is too many too. But I’ve had one pair since the 3rd grade!!! They are my favorite and I still wear them. :)~ Sick isn’t it? hee hee
