I am not sure if I have ever mentioned this, but I love ladybugs. I think those creepy little polka dots bugs are so cute. In fact, I plan to get one tattooed on my wrist sometime in August. I don’t know why I like them so much, but I do. When I see one flying around, I extend my hand in hopes that they might land on my arm or something. They are just so adorable!
However, my love for them does not include them being in my food.
You heard me right.
Yesterday afternoon, I was about to work on my website (which is why it currently looks exactly the same) and decided to get a salad from Quizno’s… you
know, I was trying to do be healthy… eat a little something to get myself in the right frame of mind. I am a finicky eater, not in that I won’t eat many things, but I like to eat things in portions. Especially a salad. I will divide it up, and add my salad dressing in small portions so the lettuce doesn’t get overcoated, or soggy.
I was about a third into my salad when I noticed something orange; it looked like a bit of tomato… it had black specks on it… so I figured it was some pepper from the dressing. But as I looked a bit closer, I noticed it was not a piece of tomato at all…
It was a damn dead ladybug.
There… in all it’s dead ass glory, in my expensive ass Quizno’s salad was a ladybug.
Many cultures believe that the ladybugs brings good luck… but I don’t give a good god damn what they bring when they are laying dead for who knows how long in my salad when I am hungry as hell.
I called to complain and of course could not get through. I ended up calling corporate and got some dingbat who said “Oh wow, that’s really gross. I am going to document this for you, and let them know they need to wash their greens a little better.” No offer for a refund or anything… just those little words which I was guess was supposed to make me feel better. I don’t care how much she documents it, I won’t be going back to that Quizno’s. And a salad from anywhere else will get a very thorough inspection from me before I take my first bite.
Needless to say, I didn’t complete my lunch.

Yuck. That would ruin my lunch also. Are you sure you still want that particular tattoo?
haleyhughes’s last blog post..Wordless Wednesday: Dancing in the Park
@ Haley - My husband asked me the exact same thing. I was thinking if I did it, I’d have a story to go with it… that’s hoping that come August I actually find humor in almost eating one.
OMG! Nasty. You should have gone to the store to complain as well, they’d have done something for you I’m sure!
ps - just saw my blog listed on your “frequents” list! thanks so much!
Lisa’s last blog post..New text messaging charges
@ Lisa - I thought about going into the store, but I wasn’t sure that I could keep myself under control. The police would have been called because I would have been telling everyone in there to double check their food since mine had bugs!
Oh yuck! That’s just disgusting. I think Quizno’s could have handled that much better. I think we need to all blog about it and let Quizno’s know they need to treat bloggers better!
@ Lynne - Tell me about it. I was at least expecting her to offer me a coupon for a free combo or something… not that I would have used it. But to tell me that um, she would tell them to wash their greens better was not exactly what I wanted to hear.
Quiznos didn’t tell you that ladybugs are full of protein and fiber??? I’m amazed.
Like Lynne said– the blogosphere will get the word out. I’ll Stumble your post. Let us know if Quiznos gets back to you!

OH …. MY …. GAWD!!!
See…just one more valid reason to NEVER eat a salad.
As if I really needed one. ha!
castocreations’s last blog post..Yabut…I Would Rather Sleep
@ Mrs. Mecomber - Honestly, I don’t think the girl would even know what protein and fiber was. She just sounded so unbelievably dense. And thank you for the stumble!
@ Chelle - I can only imagine the insane reaction I would have had if I had actually put it in my mouth. EWWWW!!! Thanks for the stumble!
@ castrocreations - I’ve become paranoid… dreaming about bugs in restaurants. I think I will be eating in for a bit.
Ew ew ew ew ew I probably still would’ve eaten it except for the pieces around where I found the lady bug but still… ew.
I agree - they are cute though!
I wanna see the changes!!! hehehehe
fragileheart’s last blog post..Short & Sweet
I would of definitely kept eating
Claire’s last blog post..Catching crabs with Olga
@fragileheart & Claire - I thought about eating the rest, but then I had flashes of other bugs making their way through the lettuce and tomatoes, and yeah… that was pretty much it for me. I closed it up and was done.
That’s pretty gross. Last weekend I was buying some lettuce at the grocery store and saw an itsy bitsy teeny weeny dead fly on it. Yes….I put it back and got another one. While cleaning it later, all I could think about was that dead fly. yuk…..
Well…thank God it wasn’t a curly hair in your salad….you might have just puked right there in it!! Doesn’t it make you wonder sometimes, what things you’ve missed in your salad.
Ellen’s last blog post..I Got Suckered Punched With High Energy Rates
Just different people I guess cause I would have picked out the ladybug and finished the salad. I eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables picked right out of the garden. I’m sure I’ve eaten more than a few critters along with the peas, carrots, beans, etc. We had an apple tree at the house we were in two years ago. It had a super year for apples, there were buckets of really big, juicy, great tasting apples on that tree. Better than any I have ever had from any store and most roadside stands. But, that tree was never sprayed for bugs. So there were bugs in the core of at least every other apple. I just sliced them up, picked out the critters and ate the apple. We made a ton of apple pies with them too.

Wow, sorry you had to deal with that. They should have at least offered you some gift certificates. We got that when we only got bad service at jack in the box.
Shirley’s last blog post..A Contest!
@Ellen - I have most definitely been thinking about what I might have missed. Ewwww.
@Laura - I used to spend my summers in the country at my grandmas house. She had no running water, and everything was home grown, and raised right there on the farm. I had no problems with that… but there is something so gross about going to a restaurant and finding bugs in THEIR food. lol
Great shot on the ladybug

Ah man, and here I thought the entire story would be about cute ladybugs. What a turnabout tale.
Sorry about the experience.

Well Well Well…I had forgotten ALL about the ladybug tat as we discussed this the other night!1 LMAO IT IS FATE!!!!! I think it would be a really nice touch if you put…R.I.P. or some delightful shit about Quizno’s underneath that lil’ ladybug tat!! HAHAHHAA I love you and getting an e-mail of your blogs always makes my day. Take care-’til we meet AGAIN!! :oD
Monique, that is bad very bad. Yes they do come in orange, red and even yellow. The good news is the reason you like the ladybug is because it is a beneficial bug, it eats destroying types of bugs. Like aphids, scales and lice, that is why your dead friend showed up. She was making your salad tasty and clean! Poor dear gave her life, and they throw her into a salad!
I dugg your post BTW!
Kathy@brazoscowgirl’s last blog post..Finally I agree with a Democrat!
I guess that one good thing I got from being raised on a farm and eating so much grown in our own garden is that finding things like that in my food doesn’t faze me…I pick it out and keep on grubbin. LMAO! Yea, I’m gross like that, what can I say?
Thanks so much for your comment…the nuts really came out of the woodwork on those two posts…screw ‘em. LOL

I am loving this blog post! Nothing like some bad publicity on the web for them with some wonderfully depictive photos! I also will not eat there thanks to your experience.
Hope they like loosing customers over ladybugs!

Ew. Ew. Ew.
(Carefully checks salad for little tomato-with-pepper-looking-thingies. Whew.)
You should have gotten a refund. Not that you’ll go back, but still….
Maureen’s last blog post..Oh Gad. I Really Didn’t SAY That, Did I?
Hmmmm…. I guess since it was a ladybug I would have finished the salad… if it was a fly or a roach, no way.
But, either way: you’d think the dingbat from corporate would have done SOMETHING to keep you as a customer. I would have sent you a voucher for a free meal at the very least!
To me, that’s worse than the bug!
Mo’s last blog post..Mo-copa-cabana
@ Exotic - why thankya.
@ Jacqueline - I wish it had been just a cute story.
@ S - So I’ve been told… and because of it most people think I should most definitely still get the tat.
@ Kathy - Yup.. I really do love them, but nooooooot in my salad. lol
@ Barb - Nothing in my brain functions that simply… I took it to the next level thinking about the OTHER bugs that had been walking about in that I am sure I missed.
@ fragileheart - lol.. it’s the overthinker in me.
@ DirtyLaundryDiva - Maybe they won’t do anything about my salad, but at least maybe others in my area might check theirs twice before eating.
@ Maureen - LOL! Check those tomatoes closely.
@ Mo - I couldn’t keep eating it, cause for all I know, there was a roach and/or fly traveling through it with the ladybug.
At least that’s how it played out in my mind.
Oh man, how disgusting. I’m grossed out. If it means luck, let us know if you hit the MegaMillions. What are they going to do for you, give you a free lunch?

That is gross, maybe if you went back where you bought it they may give you a refund.
Don’t feel bad, I found a dead fly in a salad once. Totally grossed me out, never ate there again. And I found a dead fly in a glass of water that I had already drank at a restaurant.

Oh that really sucks…I’d have lost my mind if it had been a ladybug in my salad. The people at Quizno’s would have wished they’d never come in to work that day!
Here’s to hoping next time you get a salad it comes sans bugs!

Needless to say I thought of you and your post and I wanted so badly to go in there and ask them if they had “Lady Bug salads?”

No I could not have finished the salad. In fact, I probably would have thrown up. I get nauseous very easily. So sorry you had to deal with that!
