101 Things About Me

  1. My name is Monique.
  2. I do not like it when people call me Monik or Monika or Mon-i-Q.
  3. My parents could not decide on a middle name so they did not give me one.
  4. When I got married I took my husband’s name so I could have three initials versus 2.
  5. I hate when people pronounce my last name as Castrol.
  6. And I really hate when someone has no idea who Fidel Castro is when I use him as an example of what my last name is.
  7. My last name is not hyphenated, although there are days when I think I should have because people insist on making one or the other my middle name.
  8. After years of having people botch up my name, I decided to give myself a middle name.
  9. With the help of my friends and mother we chose Renae.
  10. I am now in the process of getting my name changed.
  11. My new initials are now an anagram for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
  12. I am fluent in 3 languages; Could be quad-lingual if I freshened up on my French.
  13. All through my youth and teen years everyone was pretty certain that I would never get married. Even among my friends it was a running joke that I would forever be unwed, living with someone on a long-term and very serious basis, with some kids – but it would never end in marriage.
  14. I am (happily) married.
  15. We met on the internet in a Prodigy Chat room over a decade ago when no one did that kind of thing.
  16. And got married a little over 2 years later.
  17. I was the first of my friends to ever get married.
  18. We got married in a very quiet and private ceremony. No one believed me when I said I was married.
  19. I am adopted and know my biological family – but I don’t talk to most of them these days.
  20. I count my (adoptive) mother as one of my best friends.
  21. I am a very happy adoptee and support adoption 99.9%.
  22. However, I do not think I would ever adopt a newborn domestically.
  23. For a while my husband and I were planning on adopting a little girl from China.
  24. I have no 2 legged children.
  25. I have been battling infertility for several years.
  26. Contrary to the stupidity most anti-adoption people believe, I am not 40 having spent my fertile years working on my career nor do I now or have ever had an STD.
  27. I like my hair short, but am allowing it to grow long for my husband.
  28. I am not a big fan of combing my hair all fancy like, so 90% of the time you will see me wearing a hat.
  29. I lovelovelove Hello Kitty.
  30. I have a pretty large collection… and it’s still growing day by day.
  31. I spent so much time bidding on HK items on eBay I nearly went broke.
  32. My Godfather bought me my very first Hello Kitty item.
  33. In addition to Hello Kitty, I collect teddy bears.
  34. If I could, I would collect Happy Bunny items even though a lot of their stuff offends me.
  35. I am a television junkie.
  36. But I don’t watch a lot of TV, I listen to it.
  37. Some of my favourite (regular) shows are Law and Order, Monk and ER.
  38. I have never missed a season of The Real World.
  39. IMO, the best reality show on TV is The Amazing Race – I have never missed a season of that either.
  40. The series Angel is the only TV show I have ever considered buying on DVD.
  41. I hate feet with a passion. Toes especially. Yuck.
  42. My mom was almost 100% positive that I was gay until I turned 15 and realized that dresses were a good thing.
  43. My dream car is a Passat. Feel free to send me money via PayPal to make that dream a reality or you can drive it to me.. The choice is yours.
  44. I am WAS a peer mentor… a paid one.
  45. My IQ is 144 … not trying to brag, just stating a fact. And please do not ask me tedious questions because they won’t get answered.
  46. I am a Fossil freak. Purses, wallets, watches, you name it, I own it.
  47. I love Diddy… even though everyone I know makes fun of me for it.
  48. My husband has a girls name.
  49. He is also trilingual and currently working on language #4.
  50. Combined, our house hold can speak English, Spanish, American Sign Language, French, and a little Chinese (fluency in that order).
  51. I wanted a dog real bad, so I sent my husband out to get me one from the pound. He came back with seven of them.
  52. In addition to the seven dogs he brought home, we have had a range of animals including cats, dogs, frogs, spiders, birds, hamsters and fish. I won’t tell you how much of the zoo still remains.
  53. I love to gamble…. shhhhhhhhhh But what is sad is that I rarely buy a lotto ticket or go to a casino!
  54. On top of being Fossil crazy, I also love Dooney and Bourke.
  55. My favorite colour is purple.
  56. I love the number 3 and any of its multiples.
  57. I collect stationary.
  58. That includes paper, pencils, and pens.
  59. I also dabble in painting.
  60. I bought my first piece of canvas in 1996 and did not paint on it until 2001.
  61. IMO, I am not really good but most people say it’s great.
  62. However, I am an excellent scrapbooker.
  63. I am a devoted scrapbook-eee.
  64. Once upon a time I was a Creative Memories Consultant.
  65. I left when they decided they should have creative control over what I do in my personal albums.
  66. The most I have ever spent at once on supplies was over $600 at a scrapbook store in Lubbock, TX.
  67. I think the name of the store was Down Memory Lane. I figure they call it that because your money is a memory once you walk in.
  68. I own 60+ web sites.
  69. I am a Democrat.
  70. I am a Capricorn, which truly sucks. Everyone is so consumed with the holidays my birthday usually comes and goes without much word from anyone.
  71. In order to compensate for the lack of recognition in December, we celebrate my birthday twice a year. Once in June and again in December.
  72. As a child I had the worst penmanship in the world, so my father made me sit down and practice writing my alphabet 2-3 hours a day.
  73. I am a shoe-a-holic – but I currently own less pairs than Imelda Marcos.
  74. But I only wear about 4 pair.
  75. My favorite soda is Pepsi Lemon.
  76. I only enjoy Coke at restaurants if it has a lemon in it.
  77. I love Judy Blume books.
  78. But Alisa Valdes-Rodriquez is my all time favourite author….
  79. With Wally Lamb coming in close in 2nd place.
  80. I collect V.C. Andrews books. It got to the point where they were coming out so frequently that I couldn’t read them, so now I just buy them. Hopefully one day I will get around to reading them all.
  81. My childhood nickname was Pumpkin.
  82. I think my all-time favourite CD is Elephunk by the Black Eyed Peas.
  83. I listen to, and pretty much enjoy every kind of music out there. I have CD’s by The Judd’s, Usher, Beethoven, Prince, Journey, Pearl Jam, Juan Luis Guerra and so many more. You name it, I have some version of it.
  84. My favorite song featured in a movie, sung by an actor is Zooey Deschanel singing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with Leon Redbone in Elf.
  85. I used to watch General Hospital everyday only so I could see the sexy, and so very moody Maurice Benard.
  86. I used to watch Passions but realized there was no need to tune in everyday because a year later the story would be the same.
  87. I once worked for an art gallery and was given a lot of artwork for my home.
  88. I love chocolate truffles, but not better than Caramel Hershey Kisses.
  89. I am allergic to peanuts.
  90. And mayonnaise… but exactly what in the mayo, no one knows.
  91. My husband makes the best fajitas in the world
  92. My favourite restaurant is IHOP (International House of Pancakes).
  93. My favourite fast food restaurant is Chick-fil-A.
  94. The only cookies I truly enjoy (that comes from a store shelf) are Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookies. Yuuum.
  95. If I had my way though, I would only ever eat freshly baked Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.
  96. I once was diagnosed with having an ulcer.
  97. I love to cook but don’t get to do it very often.
  98. My favorite Christmas song is “What Child is This” but it is a nightmare trying to find someone who doesn’t sing it like they are being murdered in the process.
  99. Speaking of Christmas, my husband and I do not celebrate it. Not because we do not believe in it…. but because …. well… we just don’t. I think when we have kids all of that will change.
  100. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Each year I prepare a meal for about 10 people even though it is usually just the two of us.
  101. Making a list of 101 things was harder than I thought it would be.

mayo.. ! you’re definitely missing out.

Personally I can’t stand IHOP. Way overpriced and I hate waiting in line.
